Amy Tavern

Amy Tavern received her BFA in Metal Design from the University of Washington in 2002.  She also holds a BA in Arts Administration from the State University of New York College at Fredonia.  She has taught jewelry classes at the Penland School of Crafts and the Pratt Fine Arts Center. Amy lectured about professional practices at the 2008 Society of North American Goldsmiths conference as well as the University of Washington, the Penland School of Crafts, and Long Beach City College.  Amy was recently chosen as an ACC Searchlight Artist.

Amy’s current work is composed of simple lines that she varies, combines, and layers to create new, interdependent and often interactive spaces and patterns. Her designs strive for a visual interplay between elements, creating  pieces in which positive and negative space become equally important. Amy employs a minimal and slightly loose handling of materials to create gestural compositions, much like those found in pencil drawings. Collectively, these concepts establish quiet visual movement and a subtle attention to detail.
