BARBARA SEIDENATHBarbara Seidenath began her studies at the School for Jewelry at Neugablonz in her native Germany, went on to study at SUNY New Paltz and then under the renowned goldsmith Herman Junger, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Galleries and museums in the US and abroad including the National Ornamental Museum, Memphis; Museum of Art & Design, Helsinki, Finland; the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; the Gallery for Applied Arts, Munich; the Museum of Art and Design, New York, have all exhibited her work. A visiting lecturer at many universities around the world, a recipient of National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and two Rhode Island State Council on the Arts grants, Barbara is recognized as one of the most influential jewelry artists of her generation. In 2002, Marjorie Simon wrote in Metalsmith Magazine "[Seidenath's work] is as delectable as the witch's house was to Hansel and Gretel. Putting it on would be like breaking the frozen surface and seeing the sun burst through again.. |
